Richard Henry Routley was born in Bristol on 19 October 1873 and entered the Royal Navy as a Plumber on 10 August 1894. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1909. He served throughout the war on the pre-dreadnought battleship Africa, April 1914-November 1918.
