Recommendation reads: ‘On the night of 2/3 Aug 44, No. 10 Pl (PMs) were in pdsn on a feature overlooking Ponte Alla Piera (3146) with the task of securing the left flank of their Coy which was raiding the village, when the fwd section observed an enemy patrol of 8 men moving across their front towards the forming up point for the assault.
The Sec Comd 13410 Naik Manawar Khan appreciating this threat to the success of the raiding party determined that not one of the patrol should escape. Allowing them to approach to within point blank he opened fire and pinned them to the ground. The enemy immediately brought an M.G. into action and under the cover of its fire, attempted to withdraw. Realising this, Naik Manawar Khan, without the slightest hesitation and regardless of the enemy fire, dashed forward and with a great shout assaulted the patrol. Single-handed he disabled both the machine gunners, silenced the gun and completely demoralised the remainder of the patrol who took to their heels. Those he drove into the fire of his Pl by whom they were taken prisoner.
The initiative, courage and determined action of this N.C.O. in effecting the capture of the whole patol did much to ensure the success of the remainder of his Coy.’
