Just four China Medals without clasp to the Hampshire Regiment.
Alfred Woodward was born in Maidstone, Kent. A Grocer by occupation, he attested for the Hampshire Regiment at Portsmouth on 17 July 1885, aged 18 years, 6 months. With the regiment he served in Burma, September 1890-January 1891; India, January 1891-August 1900; China, August 1900-September 1902; India, September 1902-January 1903; Aden, January 1903-May 1904. In China he served at the British Military Hospital.
He was discharged having completed his second period of engagement on 16 July 1906, having been awarded the India Medal with clasps for Punjab Frontier and Tirah, and the China Medal without clasp. A note with the lot states that he died in Mesopotamia on 15 July 1917. With copied WW1 service papers; discharge papers and other research.
