‘On 22 March 1910, Mrs Bailie White and Mrs Cahill were saved from a fire at 193 Boness Road, Grangemouth, caused by a gas explosion.’ (Ref. Saved from the Flames, by Roger Willoughby & John Wilson).
The two women returned home to Boness Road, Grangemouth, struck a match and ignited a gas leak, which resulted in a major explosion, which blew the front of the house away. Thomas D. Scott, a Postman, who was passing by, rushed into the ruined house and saw the two women with their clothes on fire. He took off his coat and smothered the flames and brought the women to safety outside the burning building. Scott was awarded the Society’s Bronze Medal with a gratuity of £2.2.0. (Case No. 15,283).
