Private J. Keen, 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment, was slightly wounded at Elandslaagte, 21 October 1899. As a Lance-Corporal in the 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 22 August 1914. He was later transferred to the Royal Engineers.
