Thomas White was born in Fleet, Dorset. A Shipwright by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy in October 1882. He was appointed Carpenter’s Mate on the Agincourt in October 1885 and was ranked as Shipwright in 1903 when on Vivid II. During the Great War he served on the cruiser Argonaut, August 1914-September 1915; the armoured cruiser King Alfred, September 1915; Vivid II, September-October 1915; the armed drifter Dreel Castle, October 1915-May 1916, and Vivid II, May 1916. He was demobilised on 29 May 1916. With copied service paper and roll extracts.
