109th Bombay Infantry Officer’s 1869 Pattern Shako. A very fine and rare example to a Captain or below, of standard blue cloth covered stiffened cork with horizontal patent leather peak, the body with standard narrow gold lace trimming. The all gilt frontal plate of standard crown and laurels design the centre with a circular strap, “Bombay Infantry” enclosing the floreated numerals “109”, at the base of the inner laurels a scroll “Central India”; complete with correct pattern white over red pom-pon and the “VR” mounted gilt plume holder chin chain and side ornaments, leather sweat band and the majority of the quilted purple silk lining present. The plate is original to the shako, very good condition £700-900
