Joseph Bott was born in Birmingham. A Brass Worker by occupation, he attested for service in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on 10 May 1894, aged 18 years, 9 months. Posted initially to the 3rd Battalion, then the in February 1896, to the 1st, he served in India, February 1896-January 1897. As a member of “G” Company, he was a survivor from the wreck of the Warren Hastings when she ran aground and was wrecked off the Island of Reunion, on 14 January 1897. He remained on Mauritius, January 1897-March 1899 before being posted to South Africa, March 1899-September 1902. Returning to England, he was transferred to the Army Reserve in October 1902 and discharged in May 1906. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
