Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (J. Beard, 1st Bn. 60th Rifles) slight edge bruising, some contact marks, about very fine £160-200
James Beard was born near Stockport, Cheshire. A Labourer by occupation he attested for the 60th Rifles at Manchester on 26 April 1846. With the 60th he served in the 2nd Sikh War, 1848-49, for which he was awarded the Punjab Medal with clasps for Mooltan and Goojerat, and then in the supression of the Indian Mutiny, for which he was awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal without clasp. He was discharged at his own request on 20 November 1860. Sold with copied service papers; a detailed service history and other research.
