First only illustrated. William Ball Slade (1843-1938), stud breeder, b. Yeovil, Somerset, ed. Sherborne School, Dorset, emigrated to Sydney in 1861. In 1873, with C.H. Marshall, he became manager and a partner in the Glengallan Station, Warwick, on the eastern edge of the Darling Downs region in Queensland where, between the droughts of 1872 and 1902, he developed the Shorthorn stud to over 1,000 pedigreed females, one of the largest in the world.
