Commissioned an Ensign on 7 May 1840 and was appointed Paymaster on 23 June 1854 and Honorary Captain on 1 January 1860. He served in the Crimean War, being present at the battles of Alma and Inkermann, the siege and fall of Sebastopol and the attack of 18 June. During the suppression of the Indian Mutiny Twibill carried the despatch from Lord Canning in Allahabad to Sir Colin Campbell in Cawnpore, ordering Campbell to proceed to Lucknow. He served from November 1857, and was present at the siege and capture of Lucknow and the affairs at Burree and Nugger. He was placed on Half Pay on 23 March 1867 and was appointed an Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel on the same date. With photograph of his portrait.
