Alexander Davison’s Medal for The Nile 1798, bronze-gilt, inscribed in the reverse field ‘Bellrufon M.O. Died’, pierced and fitted with ring for suspension, nearly very fine £400-500

The muster roll of H.M.S. Bellerophon for the period July 1798 to January 1799 shows Michael Oerdon as a Private, Royal Marines, being ‘killed in action with the French fleet’ on 1 August 1798. No other man is shown in the muster roll with these initials. This medal was obviously engraved as a memorial to him by his next of kin.
