Staffordshire Potteries Street Railway Co, also founded by G.F. Train, opened in January 1862, the fare being threepence (including a toll gate fee); John Shortridge (1804-69), civil engineer and railway contractor, Heeley, established his omnibus service, from the Royal Hotel, Sheffield, to Heeley, on 19 January 1852, but Shortridge died as a result of a horse carriage accident in Heeley on 8 May 1869
