Six: Lieutenant A. N. Proud, Australian & New Guinea Administrative Unit (A.N.G.A.U.), Australian Army

Alexander Neil Proud, who was born in Bendigo, Victoria in August 1910, enlisted in the Australian Army in January 1941, when he was posted to the 2/1 Survey Regiment. Embarked for the Middle East in April that year, where he served until March 1942 but did not qualify for any campaign awards, he next joined the Australian & New Guinea Administrative Unit (A.N.G.A.U.), and served in that theatre of war from October 1942 to November 1943, January 1944 to March 1945, and again from May 1945. Proud, who had been commissioned back in February 1943, was discharged in April 1946 and claimed his campaign awards in 1954-55.
