Walter Henry Donald was born at Brynfinnan, near Wrexham on 29 September 1883. A Glass Decorator by occupation, he attested for the Royal Artillery at Clonmel on 20 December 1905, aged 22 years, 3 months. He served in India, November 1909-July 1917, transferring to the Indian Unattached List as a Sergeant in April 1914. Promoted to Staff Sergeant in April 1917, he served in Mesopotamia, July 1917-May 1918, after which he returned to India. He subsequently served in Waziristan 1921-24, and was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. in 1924. On 13 January 1925 he was promoted Sub-Conductor, and was then Sub-Divisional Officer at Dera Ismail Khan. He was further promoted to Conductor on 8 April 1928, serving then at Mhow. Further service followed at Nasiribad, 1929; Madras, 1932; Bangalore, 1934, and in Madras again in 1935. At the time of the Silver Jubilee he was Sub-Divisional Officer, Southern Command, Poona. Donald was promoted Lieutenant (Assistant Commissary) on 22 December 1935, then serving at Nasiribad. He was subsequently and finally Officiating Garrison Engineer at Jhansi. Lieutenant Donald retired on 20 September 1936. Sold with copied service papers, gazette extracts and other research.
