Clarence Louis Williams was born in Cape Town on 29 October 1886. A Painter and Sign Writer by occupation, he enlisted into the S.A.R.F.C. on 7 September 1915 having previously served 15 years in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Own Volunteer Rifles. He served with the S.A.R.F.C. as a 3rd Class Air Mechanic in East Africa until March 1918. Transferred to the R.A.F. in April 1918 as a 2nd Class Air Mechanic, he served in South Africa, April-July 1918. Posted to England in July 1918, he was reclassified as an Aircraftsman 1st Class (Painter) in Jnaury 1919. Williams was transferred to the R.A.F. Reserve in March 1919 and discharged on 11 May 1919. Sold with copied service papers.
