Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (Thomas Garrett Elkington) good very fine £40-60

The plaque set into a heavy wood block, for display on a table or desk. In the base of the block is set part of the forwarding slip within a glazed frame.

Thomas Garrett Elkington was born in King’s Norton, Worcestershire and was educated at Bromsgrove School and Peterhouse, Cambridge. He entered the France/Flanders theatre of war as a Private in the 21st Battalion Royal Fusiliers on 8 October 1915. Granted a commission in the 2nd Battalion Suffolk Regiment, he died of wounds on 4 March 1916, aged 23 years. 2nd Lieutenant Williams was buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. He was the son of Hyla Garrett and Sarah Winsmore Elkington, of ‘The Hollies’, Mathon, Malvern, Worcestershire. His father, Hyla, was a founding director of Elkington & Co. Ltd., the goldsmiths and silversmiths. Sold with copied m.i.c. and other research.
