Alfred Robert Leadbetter, who was born in Pendleton, Salford, was killed in action on Frezenberg Ridge on 13 May 1915, while serving in the 1st Battalion. The following entry appears in the National Roll of Honour:

‘He volunteered in September 1914, and, after completing a period of training, was drafted to the Western Front in the following January. Whilst in France he took part in severe fighting at Neuve Chapelle, Hill 60 and Ypres, and gave his life for King and Country near La Bassee on 13 May 1915. He was entitled to the 1914-15 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals. He nobly fell that we might live. 23, Robinson Street, Regent Road, Salford.’

Leadbetter has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial.
