John Barrett enlisted in the Cheshire Regiment in February 1902, having earlier served in the 4th (Volunteer) Battalion. He subsequently served in the 3rd Volunteer Company of the 2nd Battalion in South Africa, returning home in July 1902, and was discharged in the following month; sold with Medal & clasp roll verification.
