Joachim III ‘the Magnificent’ was Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, 1878-1884 and 1901-1912. He was born in Constantinople in 1834 and was educated at Vienna. During 1858-61 he was the Deacon in the Holy Temple of St. George. During the time of his first reign as Patriarch he worked on the financial improvement of the Patriarchate. He died in 1912 and is viewed as one of the most prominent and important Patriarchs of the last century.
