William Sergeant was born in Lurgan, Armagh. A Weaver by occupation, he enlisted into the 65th Regiment on 7 March 1842. On 18 May 1846 he sailed on the Java from Woolwich, arriving at Sydney, Australia on 15 October and thence Auckland, New Zealand on 27 November. He was discharged on a pension at Wanganui, New Zealand on 31 December 1864, having seen service in the Maori Wars. Awarded the M.S.M. with an annuity of £15 on 1 August 1894; he died on 8 November 1899. Sold with some service details.
