Bill Stuart was born on 1 June 1887. He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in January 1915 and was promoted to Lieutenant in April 1917 and later held the rank of Acting Major. For his services with the 77th Brigade Royal Field Artillery he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (London Gazette 3 June 1919). He was killed in action in Iraq on 3 June 1920 and was buried in the Baghdad War Cemetery.
