Harvey Clode, a native of Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, originally enlisted in 2/Brabant’s Horse, in March 1900, and quickly saw active service at the defence of Wepener in the following month. Discharged at Rosebank in August of the same year, he then served briefly in Methuen’s Horse before transferring to the South African Constabulary in January 1901. And it was as a member of ‘E’ Division of the latter corps that he was severely wounded at Bess’es Pan on 11 August 1901. Clode would appear to have been discharged in June 1902.
