D.C.M. London Gazette 1 May 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After the capture of the objective, on a party of twelve of the enemy attempting to move round the flank of the battalion and attack in rear, he, immediately grasping the situation, rushed at the enemy single-handed, killed the leading man, and captured the remainder. His gallantry and initiative cannot be too highly praised.’
