Ambrose Upton Gledstanes was born on 7 July 1876. He was commissioned into the Royal Scots from the Militia on 1 December 1897 and was appointed a Lieutenant in the Indian Army on 4 July 1901. In September 1902 he was appointed a Squadron Officer in the 30th Lancers, in November 1905 he was appointed Adjutant and was promoted to Captain in December 1906. During the Great War he served in France/Flanders, 14 October 1914-3 May 1915, and in Mohmand, 25 September - 7 November 1916. He was advanced to Major in September 1915 and served as Acting Lieutenant-Colonel from July 1918. In September 1918 he was ranked as the 2nd in Command and Temporary Commandant of the 30th Lancers and served in Afghanistan during 1919 and in Iraq during 1920-21. Gledstanes attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in November 1922 and was appointed Commandant of the 8th Light Cavalry. He retired on 3 January 1927. Sold with copied m.i.c. and other research.
