A Victorian officer's presentation sword of the Oldbury Company Worcestershire Rifle Volunteers, 1827 pattern rifle regiment sword, slightly curved blade finely etched with sprays of laurel wreaths crossed Union flags, strung bugle and Worcestershire Rifles, and within a panel an unusual presentation inscription 'A.O.F. Court Battle Oak 2554 Presented to W.H. Hayward Esq. P.C.R. by the members as a token of respect and for his zeal in promoting the welfare of the Court, Oldbury, Feby.1866', regulation hilt but in german silver with '39' within strung bugle, fish-skin covered grip bound with silver wire, complete with its steel scabbard with twin silver hanging rings, scabbard with areas of heavy pitting, otherwise good condition £300-350

William Henry Hayward MRCS LSA educated Queen's College, Birmingham, Medallist in Medicine & Surgery, placed on the Medical Register 1859, appointed Assistant Surgeon 16th Oldbury Rifle Volunteers 19 December 1865, resigned the appointment in 1876, he died at Manchester in 1902, sold with further details.
