Henry Edward Warren joined the 60th Rifles as an Ensign by purchase on 5 January 1844 and became a Lieutenant by purchase on 30 December 1845 and a Captain by purchase on 1 March 1864. He retired by selling his commission in 1866. He served in Kaffir War 1851-53, Indian Mutiny 1857-59 and China War 1857-60. During the Mutiny, Warren commanded independent detachments of battalion in the Shahabad District and was mentioned in despatches. Warren also commanded the Guard of Honour for Lord Elgin on his entry into Peking.
