Reginald H. Cain was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force on the outbreak of hostilities in 1939 and served on the Staff of the Deputy Director of Equipment at the Air Ministry from February 1940 until the end of hostilities. Advanced to Flight Lieutenant in October 1943, and awarded his Efficiency Medal in July 1947, he transferred to the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in the following year. He was placed on the Retired List in September 1958.
