London, South Kensington: Smoke Abatement Exhibition, 1882, a silver award medal by L.C. Wyon, veiled and coronetted bust of Victoria left, rev. wreath, named (Sections A.B., Messrs. Waddell & Main, Glasgow), 45mm (BHM 3139; Allen Pt 3). Some surface marks, otherwise very fine and toned, very rare (£70-100)

A total of 79 medals were struck in silver and bronze. The exhibition, which enjoyed international status, opened in November 1881 and closed in February 1882. Waddell & Main were manufacturers of gas cooking stoves, gas fires and fire-grates; images of four items of their equipment, taken from the catalogue for the exhibition, are sold with the lot
