John Noble was born in and enlisted at Lancaster, serving initially as Pte 15437 in the Reserve Cavalry Regiment. Later, serving with the 10th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 14 July 1915.
He was killed in action on 25 September 1915, aged 19 years. He was the son of John and Hannah Noble of 70 Clarence Street, Primrose, Lancaster.
Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
