Peter Phillip Carter was born in Shahabad, Behar, on 1 March 1807. He was employed firstly as an Indigo Planter and was then employed in the Bengal Civil Service, 1857-65. At the time of the Mutiny he was living at Arrah and was employed as a Deputy Magistrate and Deputy Collector of Shahabad. He was in action with the enemy at Julapoorah on 22 July 1858. As Deputy Magistrate and Collector he was transferred to Sarun in 1863. Carter died of cancer on 3 June 1870 and was buried the following day at Ghazeepore. Sold with a folder of copied research.
