Cavalry officer’s sword, 1796 pattern Light Cavalry, the plain deeply curved 72cm blade of flat solid section back-edged for the last 30cm steel stirrup guard of square section with indented corners fine linnear engraved borders, ferrule engraved with a Greek key pattern, langets in the so-called pagoda form, horn or hardwood grip fitted with three steel rosettes, complete with its steel scabbard with two hanging rings, blade and scabbard polished over light pitting otherwise good condition £450-500

Of the type usually said to be associated with officers of the HEIC or officers who had seen service in India, although there would seem to be no firm evidence to support this, the style of this example would suggest the owner was a flank officer rather than a light cavalry officer.
