Three: Private C. Pratt, Royal Sussex Regiment, who was killed in action at Loos on 25 September 1915

Charles Pratt was born at Southwick, Sussex and enlisted at Hurstpierpoint. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 25 September 1915 whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment and his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. Sold with a copy of For The Fallen of Ditchling, which includes a detailed entry for recipient, from which the following quote from the Mid-Sussex Times is extracted:

‘Private Pratt joined his battalion in 1913 and went out with the British Expeditionary Force in August 1914. He was wounded in one of his feet and sent back to England for a time, but soon had to go back to the front... In the earlier stages of the war Private Pratt went through the battles of the Aisne and Marne. He was not quite 21 years of age.’
