Three: Sergeant Joseph Hall, 49th Regiment

Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Inkermann, Sebastopol (--rpl. Josh. Hall, 49th Regt.) contemporary engraved naming; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (2960 Sergt., 49th Foot); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (Sergt., 49th Regt.) regimentally impressed naming, fitted with replacement bar suspension, rank partially illegible on the first and with considerable edge bruising and contact marks, fine, otherwise nearly very fine (3) £300-350

Joseph Hall was born in the Parish of Wimslow, Brommanch, Hereford, and enlisted into the 49th Regiment at Coventry on 22 August 1849, aged 17 years 9 months. He served 20 years with the regiment of which almost 11 years was spent abroad, including the Ionian Islands, Malta, Turkey, the Crimea (Present at the Battle of Alma 20th Sept. 1854 & Inkermann 5th Nov. 1854), West Indies, and East Indies. He was wounded in the head by a musket ball (or a shell) at the battle of Inkermann, and was finally discharged as ‘Unfit - quite unable to contribute towards his own support’ on 27 July 1869. Sold with copy discharge papers which confirm Crimean medals and clasps and his wound.
