Victoria Cross, an interesting contemporary wearing copy, the reverse of the suspension bar engraved ‘Sepoy Chatta Singh, Bhopal Infantry’, the reverse centre dated ‘8th Mar. 1916’, nearly very fine £200-300
Sepoy (later Havildar) Chatta Singh, 9th Bhopal Infantry, was awarded the Victoria Cross for helping wounded during the battle of Wadi, Mesopotamia, on 13 January 1916. His award was announced in the London Gazette of 21 June 1916. It would seem likely that the date engraved on the reverse of the above cross refers to an unofficial award ceremony ‘in the field’.
