Edward Tobin was born in Newtownbarn, Co. Wexford. A Labourer by occupation he attested for the Royal Irish Regiment on 10 July 1875, having previously served in the Wexford Militia. With the regiment he served in India, September 1878-April 1880; Afghanistan, May 1880-March 1881; India, March 1881-September 1884 and Egypt September 1884-September 1885, for which he was awarded medals for the campaign in Afghanistan and on the Nile. He was discharged at his own request at Clonmel on 5 September 1898 and died in Dublin on 25 January 1935. Sold with copied service papers.
