Crimea 1854-56, 2 clasps, Sebastopol, Azoff (J. Laney R.M.A. H.M.S. Agamemnon) depot impressed naming in the style unique to this ship; Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 1 clasp, Tel-El-Kebir (J. W. Laney, Bugr. R.M.A.); Turkish Crimea, Sardinian issue, unnamed; Khedive’s Star 1882, named on the reverse ‘J. W. Laney, R.M.A. 11th Co.’, some solder on reverse of lower point of star, contact marks and pitting, therefore good fine or better and a rare group (4) £600-700
James W. Laney (or Leney) is confirmed as a Gunner serving with the Royal Marine Artillery on board the Agamemnon during the operations in the Sea of Azoff, and recevied one of 56 Azoff clasps to the ship to add to his medal for Sebastopol.
