Pair: Major J. G. Baldwin, 16th/5th Lancers

John Gordon Baldwin was born in Lewes, Sussex on 30 September 1929 and enlisted into the General Service Corps at Brighton on 9 April 1947. He served in the G.S.C. and Royal Armoured Corps at home and with the M.E.L.F. and B.A.O.R. until 4 June 1968 when, as a Warrant Officer Class 1, he was discharged on appointment to a commission. Serving with the 16th/5th Lancers, he was appointed Captain (Quartermaster) in July 1973 and held the post of Adjutant/Quartermaster of Queen’s University O.T.C., 1973/74. Baldwin attained the rank of Major (Quartermaster) in June 1977 and retired on 31 March 1978. After his military service he worked in the brewery business and died on 4 September 2001.

Sold with a wealth of original papers, including: Certified Copy of Attestation; Regular Army Certificate of Service; education certificates, course reports and assessments as a Private and N.C.O.; named Jubilee Medal award document; a number of program booklets - Visit of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II to Tobruk, 1 May 1954; 16th/5th Lancers Presentation of the Guidon by H.M. The Queen, 19 March 1959 (2); another, 15 July 1983 (2); Amalgamation Parade and Presentation of the Guidon by H.M. The Queen, 25 June 1993. Also with The Queen’s Royal Lancers Officers’ Address Lists (2) - 1999, 2000; photograph album containing many photos spanning the recipient’s military career and some of royal tours; official invitations, admission tickets to Buckingham Palace Garden Party, 19 March 1959 and to various luncheons and parades.
