James West, from King’s County, Ireland, attested for service in the Leinster Regiment on 16 June 1886, aged 14 years, 9 months. ranked as a Bandsman in 1888 and band Serjeant in 1895, he was promoted to Colour Serjeant in 1901. Having previously served in Malta, Bermuda, Canada and the West Indies; he served in South Africa from 26 December 1901 to 11 January 1904. He was awarded the L.S.& G.C. Medal by Army Order 1 April 1904. He was discharged in Mauritius on 17 September 1907. Sold with copied service papers.
