Percy William Williams-Till served in the Boer War as a Lieutenant in the Prince Alfred’s Volunteer Guards and gained the Queen’s medal with clasp for Cape Colony. Commissioned a Temporary Major in the 10th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment in November 1914 he was promoted Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel of the 5th Battalion Durham Light Infantry in February 1816 and Lieutenant-Colonel (substantive) in August 1917. In command of the 2nd/5th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, he served in Greek Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, European Turkey and the islands of the Aegean Sea, 16 November 1916 to 25 January 1918 and in Russia from 11 February 1919. For his services he was awarded the O.B.E. (London Gazette 12 December 1919) and twice mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 21 July 1917 & 11 June 1920). He relinquished his commission in September 1921. Sold with copied research.
