Historical Society of Trinity College, Dublin, a silver award medal by Mossop, three allegorical figures, rev. wreath, named (Thomæ Maunsell…Mar. 27 1799), 52mm; Ennis College, silver award medals by Jones (2), implements of learning, revs. wreath, named (The Lord Bishop of Cashel, Dr Sandes, to Lewis M. Maunsell for Deligent Attention to the French Language in Ennis College, Revd. Dr King, Master, AD 1839…AD 1840), both 37mm [3]. First good fine but rims bruised, others good very fine but cleaned; all with clips and rings for suspension (£90-120)
Thomas Maunsell, son of the Revd George Maunsell, entered Trinity College at the age of 16 in 1794 and became a scholar in 1798; in later life he was Dean of Leighlin (present-day Leighlinbridge, co Carlow). Lewis Montagu Maunsell (b. 1823), second cousin of Thomas, was in later life rector of Kilskyre, co Meath. Further details from Burke’s Irish Landed Gentry are sold with the lot
