Emperor holds infant aloft, 68mm (Br. 1125); The Panckoucke Translations of Latin Authors (1825-36), a bronze medal by J.J. Barre, Philosophy seated, with the winged figures of History and Poetry to either side, rev. names of the authors in three columns, named (Morellet Prof. de Rhét au Collège de Nevers), 68mm [2]. First very fine though of a somewhat later date (but no metal indicated on edge), second marked in centre of reverse, nearly very fine (£50-80)
Charles Joseph Panckoucke was a most respected French publisher and founder of the newspaper Le Moniteur Universel (1792-1813). His encyclopaedia was completed after his death, in 51 parts contained in 167 volumes
