Salvo Pace was born on Malta in September 1860 and entered the Royal Navy as a Domestic 2nd Class in October 1878. He subsequently witnessed active service aboard H.M.S. Temeraire in the Egypt operations of 1882, including the bombardment of Alexandria, and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in April 1895. He was finally pensioned ashore in September 1904.
