George Vincer was born at Westminster, London in 1848 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in July 1862. His subsequent stints of active service comprised time aboard H.M.S. Daphne during the Abyssinia operations of 1867, and aboard the Northumberland as a Captain of the Forecastle in the Egypt operations of 1882, including the bombardment of Alexandria. Deprived of his Petty Officer status in November 1890, he was pensioned ashore as an Able Seaman in September 1893.
