A good Scottish officer’s sword, circa 1800, the wide single-edged blade with wide fuller, having the remains of blued and gilt decoration over two thirds of it’s length, including a crowned shield bearing the Scottish Lion surmounting two unicorns, Saint Andrew, a Highlander in full dress and a crowned garter containing the motto of the Order of the Thistle, a thistle appearing within, the blade additionally decorated with scrolls etc., the back edge engraved in script Woolley & Deakin’s improved steel, the steel slotted guard having two scrolling side bars, the face of the guard finely engraved with a crowned thistle, loose ring for sword-knot, the waisted grip covered with leather and bound with twisted silver wire, urn shaped pommel. Steel mounted black leather scabbard the locket having a frog-stud, two suspension rings, blueing and gilding worn and faded, lightly rust patinated overall, scabbard leather somewhat distressed and lacking chape £600-650
