M.M. London Gazette 6 August 1918. The following information has been taken from an original accompanying commendation card, signed by the Major-General Commanding 41st Division:
‘I wish to place on record my appreciation of your gallantry and devotion to duty on 24 March 1918, when in the face of heavy enemy attacks you stayed with your gun alone until the last moment, keeping up a constant fire until the last party of your troops had left.’
