Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow (Capt. & Brev. Major Hon. J. Fiennes, 7th Hussars), with silver riband brooch, contact marks and some heavy edge bruising, otherwise good fine £500-600

Ivo de Vesci Edward Twistleton Wykeham Fiennes, who was originally commissioned in November 1850, served with the 7th Hussars during the Indian Mutiny from February 1858 to March 1859, and was present at ‘the affair of Meeangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, affairs of Barree and Sirsee, action of Nawabgunge, occupation of Fyzabad, passage of the Goomtee at Sultanapore, affairs of the Kandoo Nuddee and Palee Ghat, Trans-Gogra campaign as Cavalry Brigade-Major, including the passage of the Gogra at Fyzabad, affairs of Muchleegoa and Kumdakoti, advance into Nepaul, and the affair at Sitka Ghat; several times mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal and clasp (Barrett’s The 7th (Queen’s Own) Hussars refers).

Transferring to the 9th Lancers as a Major in June 1864, Fiennes commanded the regiment in the U.K. from March 1869 to June 1874, when he retired as a Colonel.
