Stephen William Gould was born in Darlington, Durham on 17 October 1879. By occupation a Clerk, he enlisted into the Navy as a Probationary Sick Berth Attendant on 1 May 1901. Promoted Sick Berth Attendant on 7 January 1902, he was serving aboard H.M.S. Minerva at the time of the ‘Messina’ Earthquake and is confirmed as having served ashore in the relief operations. He was promoted 2nd Sick Berth Steward in 1910 and served throughout the war on the repair ship Assistance based in Scapa Flow. He was discharged with a pension in 1922. Sold with copied service papers and research.
