FRANCE, Nike, 1924, an Art Déco bronze medal by P.-M. Dammann for Arthus-Bertrand, head of Nike to right with symbols around, rev. naked male athlete standing to right, cloak hanging from his neck, holding statuette of Victory and surveying the distant landscape of Olympia, edge impressed bronze and with foundry mark, named (En Hommage au Colonel Jules Bonet), 100mm, 485.68g (cf. Babelon, Die Frau in der Medaille, pl. vii, 68; cf. Baldwin 93, 648; cf. BDW 5, 116). Extremely fine, a handsome and attractively patinated medal, very rare £300-£400

Edition of 20 in this size for personal presentation. The medal was to be adapted for the Paris Olympic Games with the addition of a rugby ball, javelin, bow and arrow, club and discus, but in the event other designs were preferred
