R. H. Calcutt attested for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 26 January 1915. He subsequently transferred to the Royal Flying Corps, and then as a Founder Member to the Royal Air Force.
